A Taipei Dinner Table of Cultural Fusion

The Songshan Tobacco Factory once housed a boiler room that delivered heat through pipelines for tobacco production, the bathhouse, and the kitchen. It was where employees would gather in the grand dining hall for lunch, waiting for delicious dishes to be served.

A long time has passed, and this time, we revisit the memory of that boiler room's heat. We've used this concept to create a "Taipei Dinner Table" that presents a series of culturally fused dishes.

New residents have brought the flavors of their homelands to Taiwan. Over time, these tastes have grown into something new—a unique Taiwanese flavor. This work uses the metaphor of a dinner table to tell the story of how flavors and dishes are crucial to the culture of a place.

Each dish on this table was co-created by artists and new residents, and it represents the new tastes that have emerged as different communities have put down roots in Taiwan. The artwork is built around a large tree, symbolizing how new residents have become deeply integrated into Taiwan over time. The round table represents the prosperity and completeness that come from cultural integration.
